EMILY'S LADYBUG

The cake that started it all!
May 2005, our first child turned 2. She had been with us since August 2004, and so her first party with us was a total blow-out. Sixty people piled into the backyard for food and balloons and of course.... cake.

I saw this on the cover of a magazine and had to try it. It was before I realized homemade icing is better than the canned junk at the grocery store, and it was back in the day where I used the little bottles of food coloring from Safeway. *ACK*

So the texture of the icing is horrible, it was threatening to slide off the cake all day, and it was SHINY. hahaha But it was still adorable. The cake was chocolate, the same chocolate recipe I use now and always get requests for.
